It's hard being so good looking, but somehow I manage

So who’s running this place, anyway?  My name is Chris Fox and I designed this site as a sort of online resume to showcase my writing.  You’ll find articles, fiction and general ramblings about my life.

A bit about me.  I’m thirty-three and live in northern California in a quiet little town called Santa Rosa.  Two years ago it was a different story.  I lived in Los Angeles where I worked as an Executive Vice President for a mortgage bank.  It was a soul crushing business, but it paid me a fortune so for five years I traded little bits of my soul for a paycheck.

One of the advantages of being in charge was that I got to hire whoever I wanted.  The company was badly in need of an IT guy, so I hired my best friend from high school, Jeff.  He moved down from Santa Rosa to Los Angeles, but things didn’t work out the way I was expecting.  Seeing him made me hunger for home, and woke me up to the changes I’d gone through.

I decided nothing was worth compromising my morals, and gave up the ridiculous six figure salary to move home with Jeff.  If you remember Lester Burnham from American Beauty that’s me!  I took the job with the least amount of responsibilty and work in customer service for a credit union.  I make less than a third of what I did in L.A. but after being home for two years I’ve never been happier.

The job is easy and largely stress free.  I have enough free time during the day to belt out about 2,000 words between phone calls.  This allowed me to finish a novel, publish a slew of articles and to orchestrate my Exalted campaign.  Constrast that to working in L.A. where I had no free time, and what little I did was spent bitching about the job I hated.  Trust me, the money wasn’t worth it.

As I’m sure you’ve picked up my greatest love is writing.  Ever since I was a child I’ve known what I wanted to do for a living.  I wrote my first short story when I was six, and haven’t really stopped since.  To date I’ve had two short stories published, and have a slew of articles in magazines and online.  Seeing my name in print amazes me, but I still haven’t achieved my dream.  I want to walk into a bookstore and see a novel with my name on the cover sitting on the shelf.

If I keep up the hard work I’ve done this year, I’m willing to bet my dream will be a reality before I turn 35.  I finally, finally know how to write an entire novel.  Its more work than I ever could have imagined, but nothing has been as rewarding for me as weaving a tale that entertains other people.

Now that you know a bit about me feel free to explore the site and read to your heart’s content.  If you find something you really like please feel free to comment.  Praise is the coin we aspiring novelists work for.
