Lord of the Deep is inside this Rifter
This was the first short story I ever submitted. I’d been told by many people not to get discouraged when it got rejected, but I have a pretty thick skin and was ready for my rejection letter.
Imagine my surprise when six months later a box showed up. Inside was a check for about $75, and ten copies of Rifter #26…with my story nestled inside. It was an indescribable feeling, and I still smile whenever I think of it.
The story itself is about an officer in the New German Republic, a country in the game Rifts. He’s separated from his unit, and trying to get back while dodging all manner of critters and other dangers. You can read it below if you’re interested.
